The most experienced Czech golfer, Klára Davidson Spilková, has the second tournament of this season ahead of her. She traveled from Morocco immediately after the tournament there via Casablanca to Riyadh. The PIF Saudi Ladies International tournament will take place at the Riyadh Golf Club and will be played among world competition for one of the highest prize funds on the Ladies European Tour. Players who make the cut will share a royal prize of five million US dollars.
“Although the trip was short, we flew overnight and landed in Riyadh early in the morning. So we didn’t sleep much and didn’t rest much. After the time difference, we actually got into the local rhythm only on Tuesday. In short, everything takes time, but everything will be fine-tuned on Thursday morning. There are three Czech women in the starting field again, which is nice, but each of us is fully focused on ourselves and our game. The weeks are very long and demanding now, we are constantly traveling and playing in a different place or continent each time, so everyone needs to work on their own thing first.”
Players from the U.S. LPGA Tour will also appear in the starting field this week, including the always-entertaining Englishwoman Charley Hull. They are attracted by the higher payouts and valuable points in the Rolex Rankings.
“The starting field is strong, but to be honest – I don’t usually look at it that much. It’s always good for golf when world stars show up. It helps the viewership and growth of women’s golf in general. However, just like in our small Czech team, everyone focuses more on themselves than on their surroundings. We are concentrating on the game.”
The second tournament takes place not only on another continent, but also on a course with a completely different character and under different climatic conditions. Morocco was shorter, more intimate and among the trees, Saudi Arabia is a course with European Tour parameters, long, windy and with particular greens.
“We have already played tournaments on the course here, so I know it well. This year you can see that perhaps it was a cold winter here and it was reflected in the quality of the greens. They’re not bad, but they’re still far from top quality. Compared to Rabat, it is a completely different course: open, windy, and long. For us, this means hitting approach shots with long irons. In addition, the greens are elevated and balls are difficult to stop on them, as they often roll off. But it’s the same for everyone. I believe in myself and I will try to play the best I can.”
The PIF Saudi Ladies International tournament will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 February 2025. In addition to Davidson Spilková, Sára Kousková and Kristýna Napoleaova are also in the starting field.
