A slight cold as a toll from long travel, a demanding program and cold and rainy weather during the US Open. These were some of the reasons why Czech professional golfer Klára Davidson Spilková decided to skip the Tenerife Women’s Open tournament in the Canary Islands. After a week’s break, however, she is back in the game and is set to play in Genappe, Belgium. The four-round Hulencourt Women’s Open tournament will take place here as part of the Ladies European Tour from Thursday.
“I’m slowly starting to feel back to my full strength. It will still require a few days of recovery, but I should be completely fine and fit for the tournament. I’ve been in Belgium since Sunday, well in advance, so there will be plenty of time to prepare for everything in peace and explore the new course in detail.”
The course at the d’Hulencourt Golf Club is new to the European circuit and will be new to most players. Arriving a few days earlier can be a small advantage.
“I don’t think any of us have played this course before, so I can’t wait to test it out. It’s very reminiscent of English parkland courses with relatively flat greens and high roughs. It doesn’t look complicated, it’s very open, but it can be windy, which will make the holes not only feel longer, but also much more interesting. The course is nicely set in the landscape and everything is very pretty here, so I’m really looking forward to the tournament.”
The last question that needed to be resolved before the summer part of the European series, and which is extremely important for Davidson Spilková, was who would take care of her bag. In the end, it was her husband Sean, not only in Belgium, but also at the home tournament in Beroun.
“Sean will be with me in Belgium, Beroun and probably in other tournaments throughout the summer, which is great. It’s always more enjoyable when we play together.”
The Hulencourt Women’s Open is played in Genappe, Belgium, for four rounds from Thursday, June 12 to Sunday, June 15, 2025.
