Czech professional golfer Klára Davidson Spilková underwent a tough test in France before the upcoming first major of the season. After a short break, she tested her form very successfully on the course in Évian-les-Bains. After three rounds, she could rejoice at being in the top 20, when she took 17th place among the European elite.
“I am very happy with the result. Any round under par on this course is good, especially in the final round. It makes it even sweeter. I also feel like today I was swinging the club my best this week, and avoided any big mistakes. I generally like Évian, but this time it was great to play such a difficult course, and with a good result, also because of the upcoming US Open.”
There were already concerns about the weather forecast before the tournament started. As every year, not only long-lasting rain was expected, but also very low temperatures.
“We were lucky with the weather this time and it didn’t affect the tournament too much. They even moved our start time back an hour in the first round and the rain had calmed down by then. On Thursday the temperatures were only around eleven degrees, but on Friday it was warmer and on Saturday we even got some sun and warmth. It was a beautiful day, almost cloudless, which we really enjoyed.”
Davidson Spilkova now has a quick trip to the United States, where the 80th US Women’s Open is taking place from Thursday 29 May at the Erin Hills course in Wisconsin.
“I’m not in America yet in my thoughts. I’m trying to stay in the present moment, and when I’m there, I’ll be there. A long day awaits us tomorrow. Now we want to relax a bit in the afternoon, pack up and start looking forward to the trip and the whole tournament. And rejoice with Sára for her first big victory. My big congratulations also go to her on her invitation to Evian.”
