It was a minor dental problem that prevented Czech professional Klára Davidson Spilková from traveling to South Korea. Instead, she divided her almost three weeks of vacation between Prague and Spain. She devoted the time to preparing for the upcoming challenging weeks. They will begin on Thursday, May 22, with the three-round Jabra Ladies Open tournament in Évian-les-Bains, France.
“I ended up taking full advantage of the unexpected break. I had time not only to recharge my batteries, but also to manage a lot of other things before I set off on a few weeks of tournaments. The break gave me the chance to focus on training and meet with my coach and nutritionist and many others. But I feel hungry for golf again and I am looking forward to fully getting into the tournament carousel.”
The course in the spa town of Évian-les-Bains in the shadow of Mont Blanc has managed to surprise players more than once. Usually it was with unexpectedly low temperatures or incessant rain. It seems that this year will be no different. The forecast so far indicates persistent rain and temperatures around fifteen degrees.
“Évian is unpredictable every year at this time. It is in the foothills of the Alps, so it usually rains a lot there in May and it is difficult to predict what it will be like. But whatever it is, we will accept it as a fact. I still believe that this time we will finally have nice weather and a tournament in this magical region and we will all enjoy the beautiful course.”
Immediately after the tournament, Davidson Spilková will board a plane to the United States, where she will play the US Women’s Open Championship. She is scheduled to appear in the first round of the US Women’s Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin just a few days later, on Thursday, May 29.
“Sean and I are flying to the United States right after the Jabra tournament on Sunday morning, which is great. We will be there the same day and will have plenty of time to catch up on the jet lag. I can’t wait to be part of this big tournament and play alongside the best players in the world. I have always wanted to return to the US Open, and now my secret dream has come true after seven years.”
Davidson Spilková now faces a challenging six weeks, in which she should, in addition to the US Open Championship, complete four more Ladies European Tour tournaments. If all goes according to plan, she will be traveling until the end of June.
