Czech professional Klára Davidson Spilková shot 6 under par in a 36-hole qualification in Ambrosiano, Italy and won a position in the US Women’s Open in May. This American international championship will take place exactly in a month in the state of Wisconsin in USA.

“I am excited, grateful and happy. We had a good feeling when we went to Italy, and that feeling was confirmed on the course today. It was challenging. After all, playing 36 holes in one go is not easy. Fortunately, I managed to stay positive all day and I am very happy with it all and with my game. It is difficult to put into words. The Women’s US Open is one of the majors that I really wanted to play again. It is also, and I mean that in a good way, the most difficult of all the women’s majors and completely different from what we are used to in Europe. I am really looking forward to it.”

Davidson Spilková will thus be the second player of Czech nationality to play the American championship for the second time (she first qualified for the tournament in 2018). Before her, Jana Peterková succeeded in 2005 and 2007. The second Czech in this year’s starting field will also be the winner of the U.S. Mid-Amateur, amateur Hana Ryšková.

“I looked up Erin Hills [where the US Open will be held] a few weeks ago. It’s an inland links course, which I really like and could suit my game. Everyone who has played at Erin Hills says it’s absolutely amazing. Winning the qualifier will probably change my plans, but we still have to discuss that with the team. I also firmly believe that my husband Sean will accompany me to the major as a caddie, and he probably won’t be the only one who will travel to the US with me. Sean and I are both looking forward to meeting a lot of our LPGA friends again, and we believe that returning to America after two years will be great. Plus, it’s great that we’ll be playing the tournament with Hanka Ryšková from the Czech Republic. It will be a big dream come true for all of us.”

The 80th annual US Women’s Open (held since 1946) will be held at Erin Hills from May 29 to June 1, 2025 in the town of Erin near Milwaukee. The men’s US Championship was last held at this course in 2017, when Brooks Koepka was the winner. The women’s major will be held at Erin Hills for the first time in history.
