Another tournament shortened due to weather has been completed by Czech professional golfer Klára Davidson Spilková. And it was successful again for her, in fact her best finish this year as she finished in tied-11th place at the Joburg Ladies Open in Johannesburg, South Africa. With this result she moved into the top thirty of the 2025 Order of Merit on the Ladies European Tour.
“It was great to return to this course after two years. I also leave the tournament feeling very good about my game, where I managed to score mainly on par 5’s. I played very solidly and consistently and everything was as I expected, although I believe I still have room for more. I’m really looking forward to next week in Cape Town and I feel really good. However, I’m taking it one day at a time and trying to stay in the present moment. I don’t think about what was or what will be. I’m doing everything I can to get the best results, and I see it as a long-term process.”
The weather forecast was right, and the Joburg Ladies Open had to be interrupted several times due to flooding of the course after several heavy rains. Some players, including Davidson Spilková, did not get on the course at all on Friday and had to play the second round on Saturday. As a result, the entire tournament was shortened to just three rounds. The Ladies European Tour’s next stop outside Europe is the Investec SA Women’s Open in the suburbs of Cape Town, where the weather should be better.
“I’m flying to Cape Town right after the tournament at half past six in the evening. So I’ll just have a coffee in the clubhouse and go to the airport. Since one round was completely cancelled, my schedule fits together nicely. Fortunately, it didn’t rain today, but we played the last round on a completely waterlogged course. We managed it, and it’s great that we were able to play at least three competitive rounds. Now I’m waiting for a new course that I don’t know yet, but I’m already looking forward to discovering it. I have the same caddie as in Johannesburg, a local South African caddie. He was very nice and it’s good that we had the chance to get to know each other well over those four days. In short, I’m really looking forward to next week.”
The Investec SA Women’s Open in Cape Town should be Davidson Spilková’s last planned non-European event, and she should return to Prague immediately after completion of the tournament, after almost two months on the road.
