The Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, a home tournament, is one of the highlights of the season for many Czech players. After 14 years among professionals, golfer Klára Davidson Spilková also knows this. It was she who attracted the most attention and the eyes of most spectators for many years. This year’s performance meant not only a successful return for her after last year’s minor injury, but also a tied 40th place and confirmation of her good form – she’s consistently playing for solid results in most tournaments of the Ladies European Tour series.
“I’m a little sad now. Probably because of the back nine, where I didn’t manage to score as well today. On the other hand, I feel good about how I handled everything and how well I felt on the course throughout the weekend. In addition, I managed to get into a rhythm from the second round and add lightness to my game. Playing in front of a home crowd is always more challenging and maybe I have higher expectations of myself than usual. At home, it’s not enough to just have a good knowledge of the course; what’s much more important is how you feel on the course and the pressure from the fans. This year it was better. The home number one is deservedly Sára [Kousková], so most of the attention was probably focused on her. I always look forward to the spectators in Beroun and I have to thank them for how many of them made time for our tournament, came to watch and cheer for us. When I look back on the home tournament now, I’m happy with myself and my solid game.”
The novelty that Davidson Spilková prepared for the do home crowd was stickers and autograph cards, which her team distributed throughout the rounds.
“We received a lot of wonderful reactions, everyone was pleasantly surprised, especially the children, who were very happy with these little gifts. It was lovely to see everyone immediately put the sticker on their T-shirt, cap or backpack. That was especially nice and one of the best experiences this year.”

Davidson Spilková will skip next week’s Amundi German Masters in Hamburg, and focus on her next event in Ireland, before taking a well-deserved month off.
“I’ll have a week off now and try to get some good sleep. The week of the home tournament is always a tough one, and each of us has a lot of media and sponsorship obligations. I also need to sort out a lot of personal errands in Prague. And then I’m really looking forward to the tournament in Ireland. We’re playing on the same course as last year and a big crowd is expected. KPMG is one of my favorite tournaments, so Sean and I will try to prepare for it as best we can. I’d like to have a good rest in the summer so that I’m well prepared for the autumn part of the season. It will be very demanding both in terms of playing and traveling, so four weeks for regeneration will come in handy.”
