It was a solid result in her return after a medical break. Despite the initial nervousness, Klára Davidson Spilková started the 2025 Ladies European Tour season on the right foot. In Rabat, Morocco, on the Dar Es Salam course (Oasis of Peace), she played three rounds with a total score of two shots under par and finished in a tie for 24th place. She will thus enter the 2025 rankings with the much-needed first points, which will also count for her in the 2024 season, where she is still fighting for this year’s playing card based on a granted medical exemption.
“I feel very good about my game, solid. It was clear that with each shot I am getting more and more comfortable. It is such a never-ending process, especially after a longer break, and so I am grateful for the good result. Physically I felt great and mentally, even after the initial slight nervousness, it was better and better every day. My self-confidence is back. Yes, the five-month break from professional golf was a bit noticeable at first. Suddenly I was under pressure to play again and needed to deal with it, but I managed it. I’m very happy about it.”
It was a slow start, as in the first round Davidson Spilková shot 75, two over par (par 73), then a second round of 72, one under, and in the final round 70, three shots below the standard of the Moroccan eighteen in Dar Es Salam. Her improvement was not only due to precise iron play – she made three out of her five birdies in the last round on par three holes – but also to her reading of the greens and putting.
“In the fall and winter, I worked not only on my health, but also on my swing technique. I feel that it is slowly starting to work, I am hitting the shots cleanly and everything is coming together nicely, especially distance control. The irons worked really well for me, I could rely on them, and I putted well in the final round. I am slowly gaining much-needed confidence and I know what I can rely on. Now I just need to play as much as possible and be under tournament pressure.”
Davidson Spilková now has an overnight flight from her beloved Morocco to Riyadh for the PIF Saudi Ladies International tournament, which will be played from Thursday February 13th to Saturday February 15th for a total prize fund of $5 million.
“I always love coming back to Morocco and the course Oasis of Peace. Maybe that helped me get back into competitive golf. After all, I won here once and it’s my favorite place and tournament. But now I am packing up and flying from Casablanca directly to Riyadh tonight, where I’ll land on Sunday morning.”
