Klára Davidson Spilková has just completed her appearance at the Summer Olympics in Paris. The tournament boosted her confidence and revealed her potential for the next three important tournaments held in August on the Ladies European Tour. Four four-round tournaments, played over four consecutive weeks, will not only be a physical test for her but also the true highlight of the summer and entire season.
After France, Davidson Spilková will first head to Scotland for the Scottish Open, followed by the final major of the season, the Women’s Open at St. Andrews and, finally, she will compete in her favourite Irish Open in Dublin. The Czech golf professional is expected to return to Czechia at the beginning of September after more than a month of travelling.
“The Olympic Games were a great experience and taught me many new lessons. There were two moments I will never forget: when I teed up the ball on the first hole and when I walked across the bridge from the final green of the last round. There were not many spectators during practice, but when I saw the immense crowds at the first tee, along the fairways and around the greens during all the competition rounds, that was probably the most memorable experience of the whole tournament. The French fans proved to be some of the best – they cheered and supported all players without distinction and appreciated every good shot. I was also surprised by how many Czech fans were on the course, and I want to thank them for their support and coming to the tournament,” the athlete reflected on the Olympic contest.
Immediately after the Olympics, she will play three tournaments in Scotland and Ireland. Despite a minor injury, the four rounds in Paris have been a positive boost for her for the rest of the year.
“Even though it might not seem like it, the Olympic tournament was a positive motivation for the rest of the season. It was something different from regular tournaments and more like a major. It really helped me gain confidence and find a lot of positive energy and the much-needed consistency until the last hole. I will need all of this in the rest of the month. The course and the competition were really tough, and I am glad I managed to handle everything both mentally and physically. I proved to myself that I can succeed even among the best,” the professional assessed her performance in Paris.
Davidson Spilková will now play in the Scottish Open, and thanks to her standing on last year’s Ladies European Tour, she also received an invitation to St. Andrews to the Old Course, where she will start in the last major of the year.
“I am really looking forward to these three remaining tournaments, though to each one in a different way. They are played on different courses, in different climates, and one of them is a major, let alone held on the most iconic course, the Old Course at St. Andrews. I always love returning to Scotland and Ireland, and I feel I am very well prepared for everything. If everything works out, this could be one of the best months of the entire year for me,” the golfer said optimistically.
The first tournament, the ISPS HANDA Scottish Open in Scotland, is played from Thursday, 15 August to Sunday, 18 August at the Dundonald Links in Gailes. Davidson Spilková will tee off from hole 10 at 1:05 p.m. local time. She will be grouped with England’s Amy Taylor and USA’s Marina Alex. Alongside Davidson Spilková, three other Czech players will participate in the tournament: Kristýna Napoleaová, Sára Kousková and Jana Melichová.
