Final rounds give me freedom, ease and confidence

Just like last week in Évian-les-Bains, where she scored an eagle, the last round of the tournament in Helsingborg saw the best of Czech professional Klára Davidson Spilková. On Sunday, the Czech number one achieved the second-best score of the entire starting field at the Dormy Open, scoring three birdies in a row on the last three holes of both nines in Sweden. Despite starting from one of the last places in the second early-morning group, five strokes under par moved Davidson Spilková up to a tied 21st place.

“I’m slowly getting back to my last year’s form, and I feel more freedom and ease in the final rounds. Now I just need to find a way to have it from the beginning. I don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on myself, though. It requires patience, and I believe it will come soon. I need to play more now, expose myself to game situations, learn to handle them and gradually gain more and more experience,” the player evaluated her final rounds in France and Sweden.

“I have now played four tournaments in a row and done a lot of travelling. Fortunately, the last three competitions were in Europe and I could always return home. It only reassured me that I am well prepared physically for the season and the summer. Luckily, I have been avoiding injuries, and the few aches I feel every Sunday get better before a next tournament. I now have a week off, with sponsorship obligations until Wednesday, and then I will be practising at my home course, PGA National in Nebřenice, from Thursday. Then I fly to the Ladies Italian Open in Rome at the beginning of the following week. So there’s not much time for rest,” the professional described her schedule for the next two weeks.

At the end of June, Davidson Spilková and all the elite Czech players will start at the major domestic event, the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, in front of local fans in Beroun, Central Bohemia. Playing before the home crowd, however, is not a great advantage. The elite Czech golfers will face a very busy schedule filled with sponsorship events and press conferences and the scrutiny of local spectators.

The tournament in Beroun will mark the conclusion of the first half of the season for Davidson Spilková. Before the Olympic tournament in Paris, which takes place in the first week of August, she is expected to appear in the Aramco Team Series in London and the Dutch Ladies Open in Hilversum, the Netherlands.
