This year is a struggle with weather and finding consistency

Czech professional Klára Davidson Spilková is facing her third tournament in a row, followed by three more consecutive tournaments on European soil. Davidson Spilková will complete the first half of the six-tournament stretch with the Jabra Ladies Open in Évian-les-Bains, which also serves as a qualifier for the June major, the Evian Championship. At this venue, which she loves, she played her very first major tournament years ago. The enchanting yet challenging course is situated on the shore of Lake Geneva, within sight of Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc.

“This year, the weather is not on our side. It’s quite wild, but that’s just part of our job, and we have to take it as it comes. It doesn’t look like we’ll be enjoying hot temperatures and sunshine here. It rained heavily yesterday, and similar weather is expected for the weekend. Even worse, we’re in the mountains so everything can change within a few minutes,” the player reported after the first practice round in Évian-les-Bains.

“Regardless of the weather, I really like it here. The more I play this course, the more I love it. It’s challenging, especially around and on the greens. To succeed here, you need to know these areas well. Even though the course setup is easier than it is for the major, it’s still a big challenge for each of us,” the golf professional added.

“I am still struggling with finding my last year’s consistency, unfortunately in all aspects of my game. After last week, I know I need to work most on my short game, which is crucial here in Évian. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time or suitable conditions for practice in Korea or Berlin. Finally, we have great training facilities here and relatively enough time to try to improve short game. Luckily, not much has changed on the course compared to the last year, which leaves me more time for practice,” the golfer shared about her current form.

Davidson Spilková starts on Thursday in the afternoon group, unusually from tee 15 at 1:35 PM. Her playing partners this time are Thai Trichat Cheenglab and Spanish Luna Sobrón Galmés. Davidson Spilková’s caddy for this competition will be Monika Tauchen, who is replacing her husband Sean Davidson. The French tournament is played over three rounds, from Thursday, 23 May to Saturday, 25 May 2024, and the field also includes three other Czech golfers: Kristýna Napoleaová, Sára Kousková and Jana Melichová.
