Riyadh is forgotten, now my favourite Rabat awaits

(Prague, 21 February 2024) Czech professional golfer Klára Davidson Spilková returns to the place where she won her first Ladies European Tour tournament – to the Moroccan city of Rabat, to the course she knows well and has only the best memories of. After the unsuccessful start to the season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Davidson Spilková now feels even greater motivation to succeed.

“At the end of the year, I had a month without golf and only started training in January, but it is all one long process. Especially this year packed with tournaments. But in the end, I don’t think my game in Riyadh was that bad. I was missing my usual consistency, which was most noticeable in iron shots. The rest, especially my short game and woods, was solid. It’s a process that I follow step by step, and I know the season will still be long. One failed tournament means nothing,” Davidson Spilková evaluated her performance at the first competition this year.

After a long time, Spilková had to face the classic hassle: On her way from Riyadh to Rabat, her clubs got lost at the airport. But as the saying goes, everything bad is good for something.

“Although it may not seem so, the journey was quite long and demanding. We didn’t sleep much on the plane, and we didn’t get to the hotel until the second day around noon. So in the end, I was glad the clubs arrived a day later. I only walked the course with a borrowed wedge and rested a bit. I haven’t been to Morocco in five years, and there are a lot of new things on the course. Bunkers have been added, and there are beautiful ponds on several holes. The whole course is in a really great shape, and I am already looking forward to playing on it,” the player described her impressions upon arrival.

“I only have the best memories of Morocco, and I have always done well on the local course, which gives even more motivation. I always try to do my best to be well prepared for the tournament, and the conditions here help me a lot in that. So I am really looking forward to Thursday’s start, this time with Eva Koželuhová as my caddy,” the golf professional commented from Rabat.

Davidson Spilková will start the tournament on Thursday, 22 February, in the afternoon group from tee 10 at 1:45 pm. Her playing partners this time will be German Alexandra Försterling and Swede Sara Kjellker.
